Putrajaya To Host More International Sporting Events And Festivals

PUTRAJAYA, June 5 (Bernama) — Federal Territories Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin would like to see more international sporting events and festivals being organised in Putrajaya.

He said the move would help introduce the country’s administrative capital to the world.

“We see these events as a way to enhance Malaysia’s visibility on the global map as the home for international events like the Dragon Boat Race, as we foster relationships across the region through sports,” he said at the launch of the first Putrajaya International Dragon Boat Festival at the Putrajaya Water Sports Complex here Friday.

The three-day event is organised by Mega Events Sdn Bhd, in collaboration with Putrajaya Corporation, the Tourism Ministry, Information, Communications and Culture Ministry, Penang Dragon Boat Association, and in affiliation with the International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF).

The event has drawn over 1,500 participants, both locals and foreigners, including those from Singapore, Indonesia, Japan, Cambodia, China and the United Kingdom.

Raja Nong Chik said the festival would give the perfect opportunity for locals and foreigners to see Putrajaya not only as Malaysia’s administrative capital but also as a vibrant and livable city, with the capability of hosting events.

PUTRAJAYA will be hosting what is touted to be the largest Dragon Boat event in Malaysia, with more than 1,500 participants from various countries.

The three-day sporting event will be held from June 5 to 7 at the Putrajaya Water Sports Complex. So far, 1,500 participants from 30 local teams and 20 foreign teams – from China, Singapore, Indonesia, Britain, Vietnam, Japan, Thailand and the Philippines – have registered.

At a press conference to announce the event on Thursday, Mega Events Sdn Bhd adviser Tan Sri Soong Siew Hoong said he hoped that the festival would put Malaysia on the map as a dragon boat racing destination.

“We want to set a platform of international standard for foreign investors to see Putrajaya not only as Malaysia’s administrative capital but also as a centre with a capacity large enough to host such a significant international event.

“This is also a great way to promote the beautifully landscaped city of Putrajaya as an ideal tourist centre to an international audience at the same time.

“We want international visitors and the public at large to come and see the thrilling race and feel the exhilarating energy and passion of the participants in order to get a better understanding of the event,” he said.

“This sport promotes teambuilding, and fosters camaraderie and strength.

“Later, Mega Events will be signing a MoU with Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) to provide on-site training for its event management students as part of the CSR programme,” he added.

The festival is also set to be an exciting family event with more than 50 booths selling food, souvenirs and fashion as well as other items.

Other activities include a Coffee Tarik competition, horse rides for children and a colouring contest.

Proceeds from the event booths will be donated to the Breast Cancer Welfare Association (BCWA), Cervical Cancer Awareness Association (CARES), the Spastic Children’s Association of Selangor and Federal Territories (SCASFT) and selected orphanages

AIRPORT SHUTTLE SERVICES:

The Organizing Committee has made available bus transportation from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) to official event hotels and return to the airport at the conclusion of the event. In order to take advantage of this service, it will be necessary for all (or a significant majority) of crew members and their guests to arrive and depart at the same time and stay at one of the official event hotels. This service is not available where crew members are arriving or departing at significantly different times on the same day or on different days. These transportation charges will be included in the accommodation package.

FREE SHUTTLE SERVICE TO RACE COURSE AND EVENTS VENUE :

The Organizing Committee has made available shuttle bus transportation for crews and their registered guests to and from official event hotels and the race course on race day.

RACE DAY LUNCHES/FOODS

Lunches will be available to all competitors and their coaches, managers and registered supporters on the three competition days the costs will be included in the accommodation package. Teams not taking the packages can purchase their food at the festival site at reasonable price.
CELEBRATION PARTY

A Celebration Dinner Party will be held on Sunday, June 7, following completion of competition. A nominal fee of RM50.00 per person will be charge. Please advice on supporters.

By Road
From the North South Expressway (NSE), head north to Kedah and take the Alor Setar Selatan exit (Interchange 177) onto the highway headed to Teluk Kechai and on to Kuala Kedah where you can catch a ferry to Langkawi island. Alternatively, you can also catch ferries from Kuala Perlis further north, accessible via the Jitra Selatan exit (Interchange 181) via Kodiang and Kangar on trunk road K3. This route is longer, at 48km from the NSE exit. You can easily catch a taxi from Kuah Jetty to get to Underwater World, located at Pantai Cenang.

PORT DICKSON
Port Dickson or PD to locals is a beach and holiday destination situated about 32km from Seremban and 60 km from Kuala Lumpur. It is located in the state of Negri Sembilan in Peninsular Malaysia . It takes one hour plus travelling by car from Kuala Lumpur on the North-South Highway to Port Dickson .The 18 km extent of beach from Tanjung Gemuk to Tanjung Tuan is a popular holiday destination for visitors. Many have invested in holiday homes in and around Port Dickson and not to mention those who took PD as a wedding and honeymoon destination.

Getting there

Port Dickson is about an hour away from Kuala Lumpur. Take the North-South highway and exit at Port Dickson. From the exit, take a right turn at traffic lights after the toll. Follow signs to Port Dickson. There’s another highway that leads to Port Dickson from there. On this stretch of highway, you can exit at Lukut or head straight to PD.

Kelong Paradise has change its name to Kelong Paradise Waterfront Resort manage by Line Alright Dot Com. It is a haven for diehard anglers. Sitting 15 nautical miles off Sabak Bernam, MALAYSIA, Kelong Paradise is right in the fish middle of the sea that promises nothing but the best in terms of catch.

This is the one place where anglers can fish in peace. The Selangor State Government has created a haven for diehard anglers right in the middle of the sea that promises nothing but the best in terms of catch.

Built at a cost of RM10 million, the kelong has been attracting fishing enthusiasts from all over the country because the waters around it teem with jenahak, tenggiri, kurau, stingray, senangin and gelama, among others. Senangin is the most popular fish among anglers and the best months to land this fish is from March through to August.

An ultimate paradise for those who want to enjoy a relaxed and peaceful weekend, where time literally seems to slow down. Also experience the sunset in the middle of the sea with your loved ones.

Getting there

Sabak Bernam, which is 30km from Teluk Intan, is accesible through coastal road. The best way to get there is to exit the North-South Expressway at Sungai Buloh and heads towards Kuala Selangor. The drive to Sabak Bernam take anywhere between two to two and half hours.The kelong is a 15 minute ride and 20 minutes drive from Sabak Bernam to the jetty which is located at Bagan Nakhoda Omar.
You will be transported from Bagan Nahkoda Omar jetty to the kelong in a 10-seater boat.

The best fishing times at the kelong are late in the night when the tide is going down.
The resort has 48 rooms and six suites. On weekdays, it enjoys a 50 to 60 per cent occupancy, while on weekends and public holidays, it is fully booked.

Bukit Bintang is one of the city’s shopping districts offering a variety of merchandise to suit every taste and budget. The most prominent area for nightlife is Bintang Walk, which starts from one end of Lot 10 shopping mall and stretches all the way to the Marriot Resort on the other. Map of Bukit Bintang – How to go there / transportation

There are several bus services which link KLIA to most areas of the city within 1 hour.

Express Coach 1 connects hotels in KL via Hentian Duta Bus Terminal. Express Coach 1 runs from KLIA beginning at 6:15am until the last departure at 00:30am; and from KL city beginning at 5:00am until 22:30pm.
Express Coach 1 also runs a direct route to/from KLIA to Hentian Duta Bus Terminal (no hotel stops) Time table is the same as above.
Express Coach 3 connects KLIA to/from STAR LRT Station Chan Sow Lin (LRT connects Ampang, Bukit Jalil and KL City Centre). Express Coach 3 runs from KLIA beginning at 7:30am until the last departure at 21:30pm; and from STAR LRT Station Chan Sow Lin beginning at 6:30am until 21:30pm.
Semi Express Coach 4 connects KLIA to/from Nilai Commuter Station (connecting Seremban, KL, Port Klang and Rawang). Semi Express Coach 4 is a combination of KTM commuter & bus. Service begins from KLIA at 7:15am until 22:30pm; and from Nilai Commuter Station at 6:30am until 21:30pm.
The Triton Express bus service links KLIA with Ipoh city, 200km north of Kuala Lumpur, taking about 3 hours and 30 minutes. The Triton Express counter is located on the ground floor of the car park block C at KLIA.

Taxi services from KLIA offer budget, premier or luxury/family class vehicles. Fares from KLIA to KL central are 67RM, 92RM, and 180RM, respectively. Fares from KL central to KLIA are slightly cheaper. 58RM, 70RM, and 136RM. Journey time to KL central is about 1 hour.

Fares are slightly higher if travelling between midnight and 6:00am.
Train
The KLIA Express is an efficient service that links the airport to KL city centre (KL Sentral Station). The first train leaves at 5:00am and the last is at 12:00 midnight from both KLIA and KL Sentral. Journey time between KLIA and KL Sentral is 28 minutes and tickets are 35RM per person one-way. (Journey time by taxi is 1 hour and fare is about 90RM per car one-way.)
From KL Sentral you can transfer onto the Monorail which connects other areas of the city.

KLIA Express Trains depart every 15 minutes, except during off-peak periods, during which the trains depart every 20 minutes. The off-peak periods are from 9:00am to 4:00pm and from 10:00pm until midnight. For more information, visit the KLIA Express website: www.KLIAekspres.com

Most major car rental companies operate booking counters at the arrival concourse on a 24-hour basis. Chauffeur driven cars are also available through prior reservation with hotels. For passenger convenience, you may return your rental car at designated car rental counters located at the Ground Level of Block D of the Covered Car Park.

Bukit Bintang Travel Guide and Tips

There are internet cafes everywhere in Kuala Lumpur, especially at Bukit Bintang. Rates go from RM3 (USD1). However, if I were you, I would go for those that charge RM4 and above because they tend to have a faster internet speed. The cafes at Bukit Bintang usually open late until 2am.
