Swimming at The Hague: Best Times & Best Places!


The Netherlands can be a great spot to vacation, and after your hours of shopping and visiting the museums, you may want to relax in the pool. The average high in the middle of summer is 21.3°C (70.3°F) and the average low in the middle of winter is 5.9°C (42.6°F), so it may be a bit cool, but it is still an excellent place to go swimming in warm and cozy water. There are several pools which are available year-round and make an excellent cherry-on-top to your vacation

Can you swim at The Hague? There are seven public pools at The Hogue, and some are indoors and available all year. To swim at The Hague municipality pools, you will need a swimming pass which is required for those 14 years of age and older and you will have to pay the entrance fee of €3.65

The seven pools at The Hague can be a lot of fun and a great addition to your vacation. The kids will be entertained for hours, and you will be able to lounge on one of the loungers poolside. There are swimming lessons and many water activities and classes as well as sports centers and each pool has a Canteen which offers food and drink. Of course, there are a few things you have to prepare for before you go to one of the municipality pool.

Can you swim at the Hague?

Vacationing at The Hague can be a grand visit to theatres, museums, and restaurants full of life and culture. But after a long day of shopping and touring, you may be craving a healthy dose of the swimming pool.

Year-round, Hague is an excellent place to go swimming. With 7 municipal pools, it offers fun for the whole family.

Het Hofbad swimming pool

This Olympic sized 50-meter pool has the most state-of-the-art equipment in The Hague. There are 4 diving boards and a diving tower that is 5 meters high. There is an instruction pool, as well as a paddling pool and a recreational pool. There is a 60-meter long slide, a whirlpool, and a creek.

The grandstands of the pool can seat 500 people and often hosts water polo competitions, among other things. Swimming lessons are offered as well as water activities such as water aerobics and exercise.

You may not bring your food or drink, but The Canteen, or “Brasserie,” offers coffee, breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. Zuiderpark swimming pool

Situated in the middle of the city, Zuiderpark has green meadows, ponds, nearby bowling and shops, tennis courts, and more. A public pool is open, and it has lap swimming, a water slide, a wild water creek, and a Turkish steam bath.

The Canteen offers coffee, tea, soft drinks, and snack foods, as well as Wi-Fi. You may not bring food and drink.

The leisure pool has extra heating every day, and the other pools have additional heating on Wednesdays.

How To Get There: Take Tram 9 and 16 (Zuiderpark.Melis Stokelaan stop) or Bus 23 (Loevesteinlaan stop) or 26 (Moerweg stop). The pool is a short distance from the stops.

This sport and recreation center offers various swimming pools as well as a wild water creek and a competition pool. There is a Canteen that has coffee, tea, soft drinks, and snacks. There is public Wi-Fi as well. You may not bring in your food or drink. The paddling and recreational pools have extra heating every day, and the other pools have additional heating on Thursdays.

De Blinkerd swimming pool

This is a 25-meter lap swimming pool, which is ideal for those wanting to swim laps or participate in different adult water activities. The canteen is called Sportcafe ‘t Nesjuh and has public Wi-Fi. There is a sports activity center called Sport-O-Theek that offers various activities and games.

Escamphof therapeutic pool

This pool is reserved for people who have disabilities, and it is not open to the public. With expert help in sports, the participants can be involved in water sports. This pool also hosts events for schools for disabled people. You can swim in this pool when recovering from an injury or an operation. Call for hours of operation.

The Hague Swimming Pools Rates

Tickets for The Hague’s swimming pools are available at the cash desk at the entrance. You can pay for one entry at a time or purchase 12 or 25 entries at once. People age 65 and older get a discount for recreational swimming, lap swimming, and swimming lessons though they do not get a discount on the activities.

Activities Offered At The Hague Swimming Pools

Each pool offers different activities that are open to the public to adults 18 years and older. While each pool activity schedule varies, some of these activities are:

The Hague Municipality Swimming Pool Pass – Required

Those that are over the years of 14 years of age must have a swimming pass to swim at The Hague swimming pools. The swimming pass is used to hold people accountable for their behavior while at The Hague swimming pools. To get a swimming pool pass:

  • You will need a valid ID
  • You can register for one on your first visit
  • You need your name, birthdate, address, email address and a phone number
  • Your photo will be taken
  • Your pass can be blocked if it is lost or stolen
  • Your pass can be blocked if you misbehave while at the pool

The Hague Swimming Pool House Rules

All of The Hague’s swimming pools share the same rules. These rules are:

  • You may only wear swimwear.
  • Children without a swimming certificate must wear inflatable armbands or a life jacket and may only go in the pool with an adult who also joins them in the water.
  • You may not wear your shoes in the pool area.
  • No running
  • No glassware
  • Store your valuables in a locker
  • The property is under video surveillance
  • Always follow staff instructions
  • Verbal abuse or physical violence is not tolerated
  • Intimacy of any kind, desired or undesired, is not allowed
  • Each pool may have its own additional rules
